Investors need more knowledge of Vietnamese culture

Vietnam, as well as Southeast Asia and Asia are increasingly capturing the attention of investors around the world. Therefore, some advisory organisations have been set up to help investors do business in the region.

A Paris-based Radio Voice of Vietnam (VOV) correspondent interviewed Pro. Jacques de Goldfiem from La Rochelle University, who is also a teaching director for PrepAsia, the French intercultural facilitator.

Reporter: Could you please tell us about how PrepAsia was set up in France?

Mr. De Goldfiem: Our organisation aims to support businesses or individuals who want to run businesses in an Asian country such as Vietnam.

For example, If they want to invest in Vietnam, we will provide them with basic knowledge about Vietnamese history and culture, dos and don’ts and how to negotiate and work efficiently with Vietnamese people.

Reporter: What is your assessment of Asia’s economic potential and Vietnam’s position in this region?

Mr. De Goldfiem: Asia is a newly-emerging region, particularly in economics with powerful countries such as Japan and China. Vietnam can be seen as a future dragon in Southeast Asia.

Vietnam has so far recorded the highest economic growth in Southeast Asia and the country is also a member of the Asian Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum which gathers together major economies from both Pacific shores. I believe that Vietnam will hold an increasingly important position in the region.

Reporter: What aspects does your organisation focus on when providing training for new comers to Vietnam?

Mr. De Goldfiem: We have trained individuals and organisations that plan to invest in Vietnam. In the near future, we will help to provide training for staff from the French Electricity Company EDF.

We will help new comers to Vietnam to understand that the French people do not possess every science in the world and Vietnam has a long-standing culture, therefore, we need to learn more about the cultural characteristics of the Vietnamese people.

Reporter: At present, there have been many organisations like yours (PrepAsia) which specialise in training those who want to invest in Asia. Do you think that similar organisations, for instance (PrepEuro) should be set up in Vietnam to counsel Vietnamese people planning to go to Europe?

Mr. De Goldfiem: It is necessary to do that as I think that with the amount of rapid development in Vietnam, there will be more and more Vietnamese people wanting to invest in Europe. In that case, it is essential to support Vietnamese investors when preparing their business plans in Europe.

Reporter: Thank you very much.
