Cam Ranh Port upgrade begins
The project to upgrade Cam Ranh Port in order to transform it into a key regional port kicked off yesterday in central Khanh Hoa Province by Viet Nam Maritime Corporation.
The 50,000 tonne capacity port, with total investments worth VND520 billion (US$27.4 million), is one of the projects that will hopefully increase the province's socio-economic development and promote trade activities.
The project also aims to help ease the workload for HCM City Port.
Speaking at the event, Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai asked local authorities to actively clear land, ensure security and be flexible with arising difficulties in order to support the investor and contractor.
Cam Ranh Port, which has been growing at 10 per cent annually, is expected to become a key national port.
The port will be able to receive a 50,000 DWT ship and 30,000DWT container ships and be able to handle between 2.5-3 million tonnes of goods per year.
