Border-zone key to Lang Son economic development: PM
The northern border mountainous province of Lang Son should take advantages of opportunities to develop its border economic zones, creating a foundation for sustainable growth, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung said during a working visit to the province on .
Talking with provincial leaders on the implementation of socio-economic tasks from 2006 to 2010 and plans for the 2011-15 period, Dung said that the friendly and co-operative ties between Viet Nam and China were developing well, bringing potential for co-operation in economics, trade and investment.
With its 20km of border with China, the province should analyse the advantages of transport infrastructure and the development of the Viet Nam-China trade ties to make full use of them, Dung said.
He asked the province to co-operate with ministries and sectors to focus on the construction of the Huu Nghi border gate zone, to call for investments in processing zones and to encourage companies to invest in the cement industry and thermopower plants.
The province must also seek out and overcome shortcomings related to management works to complete targets set for the year and to contribute to the achievements of the whole country, Dung stressed.
The leader also asked the locality to efficiently prevent illegal trafficking and fraudulent trade activities, and to boost the consumption of agricultural products to avoid stagnancy at border gates.
To help the Government realise the Ha Noi-Lang Son highway project, the province should do land clearance works and take care of social issues, particularly those related to minority peoples, he said.
Provincial leaders must pay special attention to building a peaceful border, while contributing to fostering the co-operation and friendship between Viet Nam and China, Dung stressed.
From 2011 to 2015, the province targets a gross domestic product growth rate of between 8 and 10 per cent, and the average income per capital is expected to reach US$1,600 by 2015.
