Financing secured for rail bridge upgrades

The second funding package for the project Improving Ha Noi-HCM City Rail-bridge Safety worth more than VND682 billion (US$37.9 million) was signed yesterday between the Viet Nam Railways Corporation and a Viet Nam-Japan joint venture.

Plans call for the package to kick off by this April. It will take about 30 months to complete. Package components will include construction of 10 railway bridges totalling 15km and 6.5km of roads and other related works.

The project is financed through a Japanese official development assistance loan with a total investment of Japanese 19.9 billion Yen ($222.5 million). Project plans call for construction of 44 railway bridges, a station in northern Ninh Binh Province and some other related works.
