Can Tho-Taipei air route to be launched in February

The national flag carrier, Vietnam Airlines, will run Can Tho-Taipei flights on February 11-12 and Taipei-Can Tho flights on February 20-21, using Boeing 321s during the Lunar New Year festival.

The Southern Airports Corporation has invested an additional VND850 billion into upgrading and expanding its runways from 2,400m to 3,000m, permitting Boeing 777 and Boeing 747 aircraft to run more international flights to other countries in Southeast Asia.

The first phase of airport upgrade ended in late 2008 with a 45m wide runway, a 27,491m2 plane area and a 2,400m2 passenger area.

Since early January 2009, the airport has launched commercial return flights to Hanoi using A320 and A321 aircraft and is expected to receive 400,000 passengers a year.

The airport has so far served 115,000 passengers in total.
