City dedicates new boulevard
The HCM City authority officially opened yesterday the first phase of the project to expand Nam Ky Khoi Nghia-Nguyen Van Troi Avenue, the entrance to downtown HCM City from Taân Son Nhat International Airport.
The project has expanded the 14 to 16 m Nam Ky Khoi Nghia Street into a 30-metre wide avenue with a 4.5-metre pavement.
Le Quyet Thang, Director of the Urban Transportation Management Unit No.1, said the project affected 576 families, including 62 households who had to move for road expansion.
The project costs VND852 billion (US$46 million) including VND750 billion ($39 million) for site clearance compensation.
Thang said construction of the project had also be delayed for building of sewages under these streets of the HCM City Environmental Sanitation Project.
Addressing the inauguration ceremony, the Deputy Chairman of HCM City People's Committee, Nguyen Thanh Tai, said the new Nam Ky Khoi Nghia-Nguyen Van Troi Avenue would help facilitate transportation on the 3.8-km entrance to downtown HCM City from Tan Son Nhat Airport.
He added the new road would also help better the infrastructure networks in the city.
