An Giang to export 500,000 tonnes of rice in 2009
In November businesses in An Giang purchased, processed and exported 438,000 tonnes of rice, earning US$177 million – equivalent to 96 percent of last year’s figure, say the provincial Department of Industry and Trade.
The businesses expect to export 70,000 more tonnes of rice in December to meet their yearly target of 500,000 tonnes.
Rice prices are still increasing and are now hovering at around VND5,800 to 6,100 per kilo.
An Giang has been able to meet the export demand for 500,000 tonnes in 2009, despite the fact that businesses are currently finding it difficult to purchase rice from farmers.
