Vietnamese and Slovakian businesses meet in Hanoi
The Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) on October 26 held a “Vietnamese-Slovakian business meeting” in Hanoi to help promote economic cooperation between the two countries.
VCCI Vice Chairman Doan Duy Khuong, said the bilateral trade turnover is still far from matching the two countries’ economic potential.
“The economic structures of the two countries can complement each other. Vietnam can help Slovakian products to enter Southeast Asian markets while Slovakia can be a gateway for Vietnamese products to penetrate European Union markets,” Khuong said.
Slovakian ambassador to Vietnam Peter Svitek affirmed the potential for economic cooperation between Slovakia and Vietnam. He expressed his hope that Slovakian businesses would seek Vietnamese partners through direct negotiations.
Trade turnover between the two countries reached over US$114.2 million in 2008. Vietnam’s major exports to Slovakia including electronic spare parts, footwear, and textiles and garments reached US$109.8 million, while it imported US$4.4 million worth of foodstuff for cattle, material plastic, machinery and accessories from the other country.
