The total foreign direct investment (FDI) capital disbursed in the past 10 months is estimated to reach US$8 billion, about 87.9 percent of the annual plan target, according to the Foreign Investment Agency (FIA) under the Ministry of Planning and Investment.
So far this year, 658 new projects have been granted Investment Certificates with a total capital of US$14.05 billion. Additional investment capital registered by 179 projects is US$4.87 billion while total FDI commitment has reached US$18.926 billion.
FID says this figure is equivalent to 25 percent of last year’s, it is still a positive sign in the face of the global economic downturn.
Since the issuance of the Law on Foreign Investment, the total amount of FDI capital has amounted to US$174.7 billion, 32.3 percent of which is chartered capital.
With investment promotion programmes gaining momentum, this year’s FDI inflows are expected to exceed US$20 billion.
