EUR47 million to help modernise Metro’s distribution network
On September 30, the European Investment Bank (EIB) in Luxembourg approved a loan of EUR47 million to help the German based Metro supermarket network in Vietnam build 5 warehouses in Bien Hoa, Binh Duong, Nha Trang, Long Xuyen and Quy Nhon.
The loan was issued following the European Union’s (EU) strategy in Asia to help modernise the distribution of goods in Vietnam, strengthening the competitiveness and encouraging the use of available natural resources and raise the efficiency of Vietnam’s economy in general.
The project will also help to strengthen the EU’s presence in Vietnam and contribute to the transferring of technology from Europe to Vietnam. It will also assist the Metro supermarket chains in Vietnam with new technologies to meet food safety and hygiene standards.
Established in 1957, the EIB operates on behalf of Europe and is now present in 27 EU member states and 130 countries in Asia, America-Latin and Africa.
