EU funds corporate social responsibility project
The European Commission has pledged over US$2.3 million to a technical assistance project to help Vietnamese small- and medium-sized enterprises incorporate principles of corporate social responsibility (CSR).
The project, with an overall budget of over $2.9 million, was formalised with a signing ceremony yesterday by the commission, the UN Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO), the Viet Nam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) and five other national partners. UNIDO and the other partners have committed to fund the remainder of the project.
The project will be carried out under the auspices of the UN’s "One Plan", a joint action plan between the Government and all 14 resident UN organisations in Viet Nam.
"In partnership with UNIDO and business associations, we hope to increase awareness of the benefits of embedding CSR concepts into business practices," said VCCI chairman Vu Tien Loc. "CSR is not charity but will strengthen the competitiveness and brand name of an enterprise."
UNIDO representative Nilgun Tas also said the project would help enterprises to integrate by promoting technology and knowledge transfers from European companies.
