Vietnam’s Tra fish sells well on world market

Over the past 10 years, Vietnam’s Tra fish has increased their output 50fold and the export value has leapt by 65 times, according to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Producers and Exporters (VASEP).

VASEP says Vietnamese Tra fish products currently make up 99.9 percent of the world’s market share.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has drawn up a Tra fish development master plan till 2020. Vietnam aims to double its Tra breeding acreage to 13,000ha and raise its output to approximately 2 million tonnes and its export value to more than US$2 billion.

The breeding acreage along the Tien and Hau rivers are likely to double or triple the existing figures if localities and businesses can deal better with waste.
