Vietnam car sales rise 26 percent in July: Report
Vietnam car sales rose by 26 percent to 10,839 units in July compared to a year ago but dropped 25 percent in the first seven months, said a report from the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (VAMA).
The report said sales of passenger cars saw the highest increase of 41 percent, followed by commercial vehicles that were up 35 percent last month while sales of sport utility and multipurpose vehicles slumped 2.5 percent year-on-year.
Among car makers with the highest growth in sales in the month were VMC, which assembles BMW, Mazda and Kia, with an increase of 263 percent, followed by GM Daewoo with 87 percent and local assembler Truong Hai 80 percent, according to VAMA.
The association, which comprises 16 assembling members, said sales of Mercedes Benz and Honda dropped 4 percent and 53 percent respectively in July from a year earlier.
Toyota was still dominating Vietnam’s car market in the first seven months with sales of about 13,700 units, followed by Truong Hai with 10,940 units and Vinamotor with around 8,700 units sold, according to the association.
