Only subsidies for poor in new power scheme: PM

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has directed the electricity sector restructuring project to only offer subsidies for poor households in rural, remote and mountainous areas.

As part of the restructuring, a working group will be set up under the Ministry of Industry and Trade to negotiate with foreign power suppliers.

The restructuring aims to create a market-based power sector which encourages economic sectors to invest in power development.

The prime minister also directed that restructuring must ensure an adequate and stable power supply for economic development.
