Joint-venture tour operators to run outbound services

Deputy General Director of Vietnam National Administration of Tourism Nguyen Manh Cuong said Monday that joint-venture tour operators in Vietnam will now be allowed to operate international outbound services.

Up until now, these companies have only been allowed to operate inbound tours into the country.

Cuong said the pilot program will run until December 31, 2010 and that VNAT will be required to review it and report to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism next year. Based on feedback from the program, a proposal for future action will then be submitted to the prime minister.

Experts say the program will intensify competitiveness among tourism firms in Vietnam due to the professionalism of joint venture tour operators running outbound services.

According to VNAT, around 12 joint venture travel agencies currently operate in the country.
