Vietnam-Egypt business forum begins
More than 200 enterprises including 75 from Vietnam took part in the Vietnam-Egypt business forum, which opened in Cairo, Egypt on July 15.
The forum was organised by the Vietnam Chamber of Industry and Trade, Vietnam’s Trade Office in Egypt and the Egyptian Chamber of Industry and Trade.
The event offered a good opportunity for both countries to meet and share information on each other’s goods and products as well as signing economic contracts. Egyptian consumers are now very keen on Vietnam’s seafood products such as basa catfish and frozen shrimps. Many enterprises found partners at the forum.
The chambers of both countries on July 16 are expected to sign an agreement to set up a Joint Chamber of Trade. The agreement aims to help enterprises from both countries to share their experiences and information to raise Vietnamese-Egyptian trade turnover to US$500 million in the next few years.
Dang Ngoc Quang, Vietnam’s trade counsellor in Egypt said that the Vietnamese-Egyptian trade turnover last year reached more than US$200 million. In the first half of the year, the turnover was nearly US$90 million, including US$80 million from Vietnam’s exports to Egypt. Vietnam’s major exports items to Egypt are seafood, farm produce, garments and textiles, tea, and electronic components.
