Over a dozen firms sued for late social insurance fees
Social insurance agencies in nine Ho Chi Minh City districts are suing a total of 13 businesses for more than VND7.6 billion (US$426,700) in back fees, an official said Tuesday.
District People’s Courts have agreed to handle lawsuits filed by social insurance agencies in districts 3, 4, 5, 8, 9, Binh Thanh, Binh Chanh, Hoc Mon and Cu Chi, said Nguyen Dang Tien, head of the HCMC Social Insurance Agency’s Inspection Department.
The 13 businesses have neglected to pay the fees despite inspections, fines and warnings from local authorities, Tien said.
After local media reported last week that more than 40 businesses in the city owed social insurance fees, eight paid their fees in full, a total of more than VND5 billion ($280,700), Tien said. He added that another 17 businesses had subsequently paid at least some of the back fees.
Social insurance agencies were likely to file more lawsuits if fees continue to go unpaid, said Tien.
