Big C opens shopping center in central town

French retailer Big C on Monday opened a shopping center in Hue Town in central Vietnam.

Big C’s latest VND300 billion (US$16.8 million) market is located at the newly-opened Phong Phu Plaza commercial center.

The four-story Big C Hue has leasing areas for domestic and global branded shops and a self-service supermarket with 95-percent domestic products.

First appearing in Vietnam in 1998, the French retail chain now has eight centers nationwide in Hanoi, Hai Phong, Da Nang, Hue, Dong Nai and Ho Chi Minh City.

With the world’s 13th largest population, Vietnam has a large domestic market whose purchasing power is rising rapidly.

The country’s retail sales last year were worth $58 billion.
