Toronto hosts overseas entrepreneur forum
About 150 overseas Vietnamese entrepreneurs in Toronto, Canada, attended a business forum held there on Thursday.
About 80,000 Vietnamese people currently live in Toronto, Canada’s key centre for trade, finances, industry and culture.
Addressing the forum, Vietnamese Ambassador to Canada Nguyen Duc Hung praised the potential of overseas Vietnamese entrepreneurs in Toronto, saying that overseas Vietnamese entrepreneurs in Canada, particularly in Toronto, were a bridge between Viet Nam and the country.
He said that the Government had always created favourable conditions for overseas Vietnamese businesses to invest and do business back home, for both the benefit of the investors and for national development.
Many participants expressed pleasure at Viet Nam’s policies that encouraged overseas Vietnamese. They also gave their opinions on investment, trade and finance opportunities.
Nguyen Chi Tam, Director of the European Department of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, who led a delegation to the forum, stated that the event was successful, as it provided information to overseas Vietnamese in Canada, encouraging them to bring their prosperity to their homeland and contribute to the nation’s development.
Earlier in the week, a similar business forum was held in Montreal with the participation of over 70 overseas Vietnamese entrepreneurs from Ottawa and Montreal.
Despite the ongoing world financial crisis, two-way trade between Viet Nam and Canada had seen stable growth, with an average growth rate of about 18 per cent per year.
