Online declaration speeds customs
The HCM City’s Customs Department has significantly modernised its functioning with the introduction last month of the online customs declaration form, according to director Le Kien Trung.
Trung said at a press conference last week that the form allowed users to send the entire information relating to their cargo to customs offices in advance, freeing them from waiting at the office to process the required documents.
The department expected the form would make things easier for enterprises with simple and accurate checks carried out on import and export cargoes.
The department has conducted six training courses since earlier this year for 10,000 enterprises to familiarise themselves with the form and provided them with accounts and passwords to use the form online.
The online application form is part of the department’s 2008-2010 reform plan approved by the General Customs Department, Trung noted.
"The plan includes the installation of container scanners in District 2’s Cat Lai Port, holding online meetings for hand-over activities between working shifts and storing files online, "he added.
Data compiled by the general department show that between January and May, export turnover went up to US$10.1 billion, 12.23 per cent higher than the same period last year, while import turnover fell almost 42 per cent to $9.6 billion.
