Three more service providers to join mobile market

Three more mobilephone service providers are preparing to join the local market as part of Viet Nam’s commitment to open its telecommunications market under its membership in the World Trade Organisation.

GTel Telecom, VTC and Dong Duong will operate on new 3G services.

GTel Telecom has finished its discussion with VinaPhone, the current biggest service provider with 20 million subscribers, to launch the Beeline service.

To compete, VTC and Dong Duong are seeking partners. By providing services without the need for frequency registration, experts believe that these two networks will be able to deploy their services in a short time.

They will only need to co-operate with one of six current providers and launch services based on technology foundations, transmission station networks and frequency ranges of their partners.

The participation of three new service providers will create a stronger discount programme for the market. Earlier this month, the largest promotion has cut by 21 per cent the fees of three biggest providers, including VinaPhone, MobiFone and Viettel.

VinaPhone leads in mobile network quality

VinaPhone holds the leading position in phone quality and successful percentage of connections.

A recent quality test for the mobile phone network took place in Da Nang, implemented by the Information and Telecommunications Quality Management Department.

The results showed that VinaPhone meets all quality standards, gaining 99.63 per cent in successful connections compared to 92 per cent as required, with phone quality at 3.52 points compared with the 3 points standard.

At present, the biggest mobilephone service has 10,000 transmission stations across the country with 20 million subscribers. The company is launching its 3G telecommunication service with expected turnover of VND20 trillion (US$1.1 billion) this year.

VDC expands international internet volume

The Viet Nam Datacommunications Company (VDC), a leading internet provider, has just expanded its international internet volume by more than 2.5 Gbps through the US, making its total volume up to 34.5Gbps.

The expansion will help VDC customers save time and expenditure thanks to faster internet. They will have a chance to apply more new services, such as online conference and training, that require high-speed internet.

The company plans to increase internet volume up to 40 Gbps in the near future.
