Six new plants set for national power grid link
Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) said Monday it plans to connect six new power plants with total capacity of more than 1,100 megawatts to the national power grid this year.
Nguyen Manh Hung, Deputy General Director of EVN, said the additional power supply aims to meet increasing domestic demand.
The six new thermal and hydropower plants are: the O Mon No. 1 (Can Tho City); Quang Ninh No. 1 (Quang Ninh Province); Hai Phong No. 1 (Hai Phong City); Plei Krong (Hai Duong Province); Ba Ha River (Phu Yen Province); and Kuop Village (Dak Lak Province).
All of them are now undergoing trial runs and are expected to begin commercial operations between now and October.
The national power utility said it expects to boost this year’s sales volume to 86.6 billion kilowatt-hours with demand for electricity expected to grow 13 percent.
Last week, the government’s website said EVN had produced about 20.98 billion kilowatt-hours from January-May, a 0.8 percent year-on-year increase.
EVN said it supplied more than 74.2 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity last year, including 53.1 billion kilowatt-hours from its generators and more than 21 billion kilowatt-hours purchased from domestic and overseas producers.
