SBV and ADB co-organise workshop on financial supervision in Vietnam
The State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) co-organized the workshop on supervision of the financial sector in Vietnam under the framework of the project “Support for Developing Capital Markets and Building Capacity in the financial sector”. The workshop was attended by representatives of the SBV’s departments and financial consultants of the ADB.
The workshop aimed at defining the objectives for supervision, namely, ensuring financial stability; protecting depositors, investors and insured participants; promoting efficiency through competition; promoting integrity, and minimizing fraud and market abuse.
Mr. Peter Hayward, financial sector monitoring specialist of the ADB, presented the main issues of management and supervision, objectives of management and supervision and methods to reach these objectives; various types of structure and the best way to organise supervision performance; and its independence and accountability. The ADB specialist also provided case studies on independence and responsibility appeared in practical supervision performances in several countries.
The workshop is an opportunity for SBV supervisors and inspectors to obtain knowledge and effectively apply in financial supervision and inspection operations in Vietnam. On behalf of the SBV Management Board, Mr. Nguyen Dang Hong, Deputy Director General of the Financial Supervision Agency of the SBV, expressed the SBV’s sincere thanks to the ADB and the speakers. He stated that this workshop is of great importance in exchanging experience of financial supervision development in the future in Vietnam.
