Registration begins for six farm products exported to China
Vietnam's agricultural authorities have begun registering orchards and packaging factories that export watermelon, longan, lychee, banana, cassava and dragon fruit to China in accordance with a bilateral agreement.
From July 1, the five fruit varieties and cassava can be exported to China only if they are harvested and packed by registered orchards and packaging factories.
China will also make a similar move, providing Vietnam with a register of its orchards and packaging factories. Both countries will exchange the register before July 1.
The ministry said that the bilateral agreement stemmed from a joint effort to protect public health, prevent consumption and production of contaminated fruits, and ensure fairness in trade.
China is the biggest buyer of Vietnam’s agricultural products, last year importing produce worth US$1.9 billion, mainly latex, cashew, cassava, coffee, fruits and vegetables.
