Electricity consumption rises
Power consumption by the production sector has edged up in the first five months of the year, according to figures from the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
Of the 27.6 billion kWh consumed in the period, a year-on-year increase of 5.9 per cent, industry and construction accounted for 49 per cent, an increase of 1.6 per cent from the same period last year.
The service industry and administrative and residential uses accounted for 41.4 per cent, a 10.3 per cent rise.
Electricity by the agricultural, forestry, and aquaculture sector rose 16.4 per cent.
Early floods in May in the Da used (Black) River has ensured high water levels in the Hoa Binh hydropower plant reservoir, enabling it to produce 3.7 million kWh a day.
In addition, electricity would also be supplied from other sources like the Phu My Plant No 2, Phu My Plant No 3, Hiep Phuoc Plant, Formosa Plant, and Cai Lan Plant.
The ministry promised adequate supply in the coming dry season, a period that has seen shortages in the last few years.
But with the dry weather expected to last longer this year, there could still be shortages.
The ministry urged the Electricity of Viet Nam to speed up construction of power projects and encourage consumers to use electricity wisely and carefully.
