Dung Quat oil refinery starts up
The Dung Quat oil refinery’s residue fluid continuous cracking (RFCC) unit began operations on Wednesday, setting the stage for operations at full capacity by late August.
Now running at 70 per cent of capacity, the facility can produce 90cu.m of liquefied petroleum gas and 270cu.m of petrol per hour, according to the PetroVietnam Group.
The refinery is expected to import six 80,000-tonne shipment of crude oil in July for the test run. Since it started operation in February 22, the plant has imported 300,000 tonnes of crude, produced kerosene and diesel oil, and reformate petrol.
The refinery has an overall capacity to process 6.5 million tonnes of crude oil per year, and its crude distillation unit is also now working at about 70 per cent of its capacity. The refinery has targeted by the end of this month to produce 10,000cu.m of LPG, 10,000cu.m of A92 unleaded petrol, 5,000cu.m of jet fuel, and 25,000cu.m of diesel fuel.
Currently using crude extracted from the Bach Ho field, the refinery will rely on other offshore sources in the future, as well as imported crude. According to PetroVietnam, Viet Nam exports 16-17 million tonnes of crude annually and imports 12 million tonnes of refined fuels for domestic consumption.
