Clear frozen food containers by month’s end: PM

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has asked the Ministry of Industry and Trade to ensure that thousands of frozen food containers stuck at major northern ports are cleared by June 30, according to the government’s website.

The containers, imported for reexport, have been stuck for several weeks at ports in the northern city of Hai Phong, with unconfirmed reports saying importers were balking at accepting shipments on H1N1 fears, Thanh Nien had reported last month.

The prime minister also ordered the Ministry of Finance to adjust tax rates on frozen foods that are imported for re-export.

He has also instructed that close attention is paid to ensuring that contents of these containers do not enter the domestic market.
