US semiconductor facility kicks off in HCMC
Global Equipment Services Corp. jump started its latest technology center in Ho Chi Minh City’s Saigon Hi -Tech Park Friday after two years of construction.
The US semiconductor vendor will employ and train 500 local engineers to serve the center, which also designs semiconductor and flat-panel manufacturing equipment.
The vendor spent US$36 million to invest in the 6,000-square-meter center in District 9 and plans to produce 200 equipment units for export a year, according to Saigon Hi-Tech Park.
The park, also soon to be home to Intel Corp.’s largest assembly and test plant, said the center would add a positive sign to the city and the country, which suffered heavy impacts by the global economic recession.
