Power centre kicks off infrastructure project
A project to build infrastructure for the 4,400 MW Long Phu Power Centre in southern Soc Trang province will kick-starts on May 10, the National Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam) has revealed.
The project, part of the Long Phu Power Centre project in Long Duc Commune, Long Phu District, has a total investment capital of nearly 1.88 trillion VND (1.1 billion USD).
The Long Phu Power Centre, with a total designed capacity doubling the capacity of the northern Hoa Binh Hydro-electric Power Plant, comprises two 1,200 MW thermo-electric power plants and another 2,200 MW plant, plus auxiliary technical infrastructure facilities.
The centre will supply power to the national grid through the 220/500KV North-South power network to serve mainly the southern region.
Once the infrastructure project completed, PetroVietnam will start building the 1,200MW Long Phu 1 power plant at a cost of 1.4 billion USD, which is expected to generate electricity by the end of 2013.
