Need an update on gold?
Several websites dealing exclusively with gold have appeared in Vietnam to profit from the limited English of Vietnamese gold buffs in need of technical and fundamental analysis from abroad.
Two of the newcomers, vangvietnam.vn and dautuvang.net, are mainly subscription sites that post translations of articles from foreign websites.
There are some free articles, but they are more general in nature and don’t have the in-depth analysis that most gold traders and investors are looking for.
Vangvietnam.vn, which employs ten or so translators, has three levels of subscription.
A monthly fee of VND3.5 million (US$196.80) buys specific buy and sell recommendations on top of the translated articles. It also covers advice from the company’s analysts over the phone.
The VND1.2 million subscription also buys the translated articles but the advice on the website is general in nature.
A VND500,000 fee will buy 500 credit points. Each time an article is downloaded, from one to eight points are deducted from the account.
Vangvietnam.vn also charges VND500 to answer a request for the latest bullion prices sent by text.
At dautuvang.net, a monthly subscription fee of VND1 million also buys specific buy and sell recommendations, access to regularly updated articles from around the world as well as Vietnam, and a daily price forecast.
The recommendations and forecast plus a list of the latest articles are sent out by text every day.
A more traditional gold website is giavang.net, which is run by the Viet Dragon Online Stock Company and provides gold-related articles for free.
Director Nguyen Minh Tuan says his company only charges for sending out articles and news by text.
The information provided on these websites should not be taken as holy writ.
As in every other area of investment and speculation, due diligence is the responsibility of the user.
