Hundreds of locally-assembled Toyota Fortuner recalled
Toyota Motor Vietnam (TMV) is dealing with a new trouble with 662 locally assembled Toyota Fortuners that need repair.
On May 4, 2009, Toyota Motor Vietnam began fixing errors on 662 units of Fortuner cars, including both Fortuner V and G.
These are cars churned out in the period from February 16 to March 20, 2009 with the range of number for Fortuner G (diesel engine) from 4000003 to 4000517 and Fortuner V (gasoline engine) from 9000005 to 9000286. Clients will have to bring their cars to TMV dealers nationwide to fix the errors.
All Fortuner in the above affected range will be inspected and the camber adjusting cam bolts will be replaced at no cost.
According to TMV, the errors do not affect the cars’ safety, and because the errors are just small, the error fixing programme is called by the manufacturer a ‘Customer satisfaction campaign’.
The purpose of the ‘Customer satisfaction campaign’ is to inspect and replace the camber adjusting cam bolts of Fortuner V&G that have over tightened torque conditions in the assembly process.
TMV said that in the worst situation, the threads of the camber adjusting cam bolts might have become deformed when removed during service and those bolts could not be reused.
This campaign will be carried out at all Toyota dealer networks nationwide. The replacement will take 3.7 hours for each car.
Before the CSC starts up, TMV has already reported to Vietnam Register Administration (VRA) as well as related ministries about all preparations for the campaign. To make this campaign succeed, owners of Fortuner model, having codes in the affected range, will receive notification letters to bring their vehicles back to the dealerships they purchased the vehicles from.
Fortuner is now one of the best seller in Vietnam with some 1,000 cars sold every month.
