RoK agricultural office opens
Vietnam and the Republic of Korea (RoK) marked a new level of agricultural cooperation with the opening of a RoK international agriculture project office in Hanoi on May 5.
The office, which will host the centre for the Korean Project of International Agriculture in Southeast Asia (KoPIA), is located at the Vietnam Academy of Agricultural Sciences. The office opened as a result of collaboration between the Vietnamese academy and RoK’s Rural Development Administration.
Representatives from the two sides also signed a cooperation MoU on May 5.
The RoK’s Government will support the office’s activities, including one project to research safe vegetables and another to develop biological materials.
The office will also offer opportunity for agricultural workers from Vietnam , Cambodia and Thailand to participate in exchanges and training in Vietnam and the RoK.
The programme will be implemented over three years.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Director of the Vietnam Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Nguyen Van Bo, said that the opening of KoPIA office would create more opportunities for agricultural and rural development managers in Vietnam and the RoK, and also those throughout the region, to get training and exchange experience.
