Vietnam lures foreign job seekers
More and more foreign experts have selected Vietnam as a “red address” for their employment during the course of the global economic crisis, according to Navigos Group, a leading provider of recruitment and integrated human resource solutions in Vietnam.
In an interview with the Thoi bao Kinh Te Viet Nam (Vietnam Economic Times) newspaper on April 16, Nguyen Thi Van Anh, Regional Director at the Navigos Group, said that the increase in the number of foreign workers in Vietnam was attributed to the government’s decisions to cross out a regulation on the maximum rate of foreign workers in a business of 3 percent and to allow overseas Vietnamese to buy houses in the homeland.
In addition, with its reforms in legal procedures and investment environment, Vietnam has attracted a large volume of foreign direct investment (FDI), leading to the increasing demand for high-quality labourers that the domestic market is unable to provide, she said.
According to Anh, Vietnamese personnel are weaker in skills and experiences than those of the same level in other Southeast Asian countries. Meanwhile, the country pays more attention to professional training than teaching managerial skills.
Thus, the recruitment of a chief executive officer (CEO) or a chief operating officer (COO) is always a big challenge for enterprises, she said.
Anh said the fact that foreign experts select Vietnam as their destination is a big chance for Vietnamese companies to recruit staff who can meet their requirements.
Anh, however, recommended that Vietnamese businesses keep a balance between the recruitment of foreigners and labour costs as well as providing more professional and management training for local employees.
