Textiles, garment expo opens in HCM City
More than 300 companies from 24 countries and territories will exhibit at the 19th annual textiles and garment industry expose which opens on Tuesday at the HCM City International Exhibition and Convention Centre and will run until Saturday.
Le Quoc An, chairman of the Vietnam National Textiles and Garment Group (Vinatex), which has co-organised the event along with the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Exhibition Services Co and Hong Kong’s CP Exhibitions, said that the expo would offer Vietnamese companies the opportunity to acquire advanced technologies and state of the art equipment to increase both the quality of their products and their output.
Vietnam’s textiles industry had enjoyed an average annual growth of 20 percent over the past five years, An said, but the global economic downturn is expected to trim that growth rate significantly.
Senior officials from the ASEAN Federation of Textile Industries and non-member trade associations from China, India, Japan and the Republic of Korea are scheduled to hold discussion on the challenges and opportunities for the textiles and garment industry in 2009.
Other events during the trade show include a seminar on how Vietnamese companies can restructure their business strategies and develop their products during the current economic crisis.
A case study focusing on a major clothing manufacturer will also be analysed.
A business-to-business programme of meeting and a seminar on Vietnam’s textiles and garment industry and potential markets for its exports will also be launched.
