French retailer Big C to ship more food products to parent
French retailer Big C Vietnam will ship more food products from Vietnam to its parent Casino Group’s supermarkets worldwide, a company executive said.
Caroline Poppe, Big C’s export director, said improving quality is helping food and foodstuffs, especially seafood, from Vietnam to meet the requirements of the group and import markets.
It would provide more opportunities for local businesses and exporters to sell to the group’s 9,800 shopping malls and supermarkets in 11 countries and territories, Poppe told exporters at a meeting on Tuesday.
She said Big C Vietnam would help local businesses improve quality and packaging and find importers.
Vietnamese products are becoming more expensive than Chinese, but are still affordable to foreign consumers, especially indoor and outdoor furniture, she said.
Big C last year exported around US$16 million worth of food and foodstuffs, furniture, garments and footwear to Casino Group, which purchased goods worth about $190 million.
Food and foodstuffs accounted for half the Vietnamese exports and furniture for 30 percent, Poppe said. But they were sold under the group’s trademarks, she said.
