Buoyancy restored to HCMC stock market
Vietnam’s major stock market in Ho Chi Minh City ended Wednesday on a brighter note after falling due to profit-taking over the previous two days.
Heavy buying appeared soon after the opening bell, which helped the benchmark VN-Index close higher 3.15 percent, 8.85 points, at 289.52.
The market’s liquidity remained high, with 20.5 million shares worth VND439 billion ($24.7 million) being traded. Of the index’s 181 stocks, 159 rose and a mere 15 fell.
Foreign investors cashed in on the market’s sharp gain today, offloading VND25.2 billion worth of shares. Among most stocks dumped were Sacombank (STB), Tan Tao Group (ITA) and Pha Lai Thermal Power (PPC).
Sacombank, the fifth biggest company by market value on the VN-Index, remained the most active stock by trading volume, with more than 2.4 million shares changing hands.
Sai Gon Telecommunication & Technologies Corp. (SGT) - Saigontel, rose 4.6 percent to close at VND18,200. Tran Thi Hoai Thu, wife of deputy chief executive Huynh Ngoc Huy, sold her entire holdings of 50,000 shares, 0.0085 percent stake, in off-market trade, according to a statement on the exchange’s website.
The bakery chain Kinh Do (KDC) increased 2.51 percent to VND24,500. The company announced on the bourse’s website that it will hold its annual general meeting on April 28 in HCMC.
DIC Investment and Trading Joint-Stock Co. (DIC) moved up 2.92 percent to VND14,100. The construction firm informed the exchange that it will pay dividends of VND1,000 per share. DIC will go ex-dividend on April 10.
Petrolimex Gas Joint-Stock Co. (PGC) rose 1.12 percent to VND9,000. Bao Viet Securities Co. registered to sell 19,340 shares out of its holdings of 19,348, 0.08 percent stake, to restructure its investment portfolio, according to a report on the exchange’s website. The sale will begin today and finish April 29.
Tay Ninh Cable Car Tour Company (TCT) rose 4.61 percent to close at VND79,500. Dang Tan Tai, member of the board, registered to unload his entire holdings of 1,220 shares, the bourse said on its website today.
The smaller exchange in Hanoi jumped above 100 points, with the HaSTC-Index increasing 2.5 percent, 2.46 points, to close at 100.83.
