Transport, food prices pull back Ha Noi’s CPI
Ha Noi's consumer price index in March decreased slightly at 0.07 per cent compared to the previous month, the Ha Noi Statistics Department said yesterday.
However, the CPI for the first three months of the year was up 15.18 per cent year-on-year, the department estimated.
This was the first month that saw a decline in the CPI after it increased approximately 1 per cent in February and 0.32 per cent in January.
This month, food prices reduced strongly, at a rate of 0.71 per cent month-on-month, because prices of vegetables, poultry and seafood were lower than those in February.
Prices were also down 0.36 per cent for transport, post and telecommunications, and 0.01 per cent for homes; electronics, fresh water, fuel and building materials, compared with last month.
Meanwhile, prices saw a month-on-month increase of 0.39 per cent for medicine and healthcare services; 0.22 per cent for cultural, sport and entertainment activities; and 0.12 per cent for education.
Economic experts at the department said that the decline of the CPI would be temporary, because on average the CPI had seen an increase of 0.4 per cent.
In March, the price of gold jumped 6.13 per cent and that of the US dollar was up 0.03 per cent against those in February.
