SBV Governor meets with Director of CitiBank Asia-Pacific
Governor Nguyen Van Giau of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV), on March 5, had a meeting with the Director of Citibank Asia-Pacific, Mr. Jay Collins.
At the meeting, Mr. Jay Collins affirmed that despite negative impacts of global financial crisis, operations of CitiBank throughout the world, including CitiBank Vietnam, remain stable and maintain a high growth rate.
CitiBank has been divided into two parts: Citicorp and Citi Holdings, hence helping CitiBank to concentrate on promoting key business operations. In addition, CitiBank has increased its tier 1 capital; strengthened guarantee measures and risk management, converted preferential shares into ordinary ones and encouraged private investors.
For his part, the SBV Governor spoke highly of CitiBank’s efforts and expressed his belief that with the US Administration’s support, CitiBank would soon overcome the current difficult period. Talking about CitiBank Vietnam, the Governor stated that by operating effectively, maintaining a high growth rate, being profitable, and quickly increasing mobilizing resources, CitiBank Vietnam has gained solid confidence from its clients.
Governor Nguyen Van Giau also asserted that the Vietnamese banking sector is operating in a very stable manner and most of the banks have become profitable. He added that the domestic banking sector has been improved and strengthened in terms of capital size, governance, technology, products, services, and so on and so forth.
