PM urges acceleration of paper industry

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has urged the Vietnam Paper Corporation (VPC) to take advantage of favourable conditions to accelerate investment in Thanh Hoa paper plant and the expansion of the Bai Bang paper factory.

At a meeting between government officials and the leadership of VPC in Hanoi on March 24, the PM stressed that the company should overcome its investment slowdown, and implement a strategic development plan for the next 10-15 years, to become a key component of the country’s paper industry, and thereby make a significant contribution to stabilising market prices.

The corporation should also accelerate its equitisation process, he said.

In 2008, VPC reported 5.6 trillion VND in revenues, with a net profit of 250 billion VND.

VPC produced over 315,000 tonnes of paper, accounting for 30 percent of the industry’s total volume./.
