Noi Bai - Lao Cai highway project launches
The Vietnam Expressway Corporation (VEC) and Posco Engineering and Construction (Posco E&C) signed a 2.55 trillion VND contract for the first tender package of the Noi Bai-Lao Cai highway project on March 24.
The tender package includes the construction of a 26.7km road linking Hanoi’s outskirt Soc Son district and Tam Duong district of Vinh Phuc province.
The building of 25.5m wide road is expected last 40 months.
The 264km Noi Bai-Lao Cai highway is invested by VEC and designed by Japanese Pacific Consultants International (PCI).
The first phase of the project costs a total 1.25 billion USD, with VEC’s contribution of 153 million USD from bond issuance and loan from the Asian Development Bank.
The highway is part of a Vietnam-China cooperation programme to develop two corridors and one economic belt.
Incidentally, the Vietnam Railway Corporation (VRC) said it will start upgrade the Hanoi-Lao Cai rail route in December.
The project is expected to complete in 2012, helping reducing time for travelling from Hanoi to Lao Cai by 70 minutes and increase transport capacity to 5 million passengers per year.
The 2.55 trillion VND project is among five VRC’s key projects in 2009 with total investment of nearly 11.6 trillion VND./.
