Import tax rates for dairy products to be raised

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) has proposed that the Prime Minister increase import duties on different kinds of milk in order to help the dairy sector overcome difficulties.

Accordingly, the tax rates for unsweetened, uncondensed milk and cream will be 18 percent instead of the current rate of 5 percent. Meanwhile, for condensed, sweetened milk and cream, the rates will be increased from 3-7 percent to 10-34 percent.

These new rates reflect nearly a ten-fold increase compared to the rates applied in December 2007.
