MoIT to invest $2.35 million on energy saving

The Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) will invest VND40 billion (US$2.35 million) in a program for economical and effective energy use in 2009, said a ministry official.

MoIT will this year prioritize projects aimed to provide energy saving solutions to businesses, Nguyen Dinh Hiep, Chief of the ministry’s Energy Saving Office (ESO), said.

The ministry also plans to implement on large scale projects to develop solar energy hot water systems, bio-gas plants and energy efficient buildings, he said.

The ESO will produce programs for radio and television on how to save energy and organize training courses for officials and technicians of relevant agencies and major businesses.

The office will coordinate with the Ministry of Science and Technology to set energy consumption standards for various products and conduct surveys on energy using equipment in the market.
