Laos boosts cooperation with HCM City
Lao Deputy Prime Minister Somsavat Lengsavad has praised current cooperation programmes between HCM City and Lao localities, and invited Vietnamese businesses to expand their investments in Laos.
At a meeting with Pham Phuong Thao, Chair of the HCM City People’s Council on January 6, the Lao Deputy PM affirmed Lao support for Vietnamese businesses in the country.
They exchanged information on socio-economic achievements over the recent past and discussed measures to promote and enhance cooperation between the two countries.
Leaders from the Lao Ministries of Agriculture and Forestry, Industry and Trade, Education, and Health also expressed interest in a number of areas such as agriculture, food and foodstuff reserve and processing, natural disaster prevention and timber processing. It is important for HCM City to cooperate with Lao localities, said Chairman Thao.
She expressed hope that the two countries will continue to expand and intensify cooperation in economics, trade, culture, education, healthcare and tourism.
She congratulated the Lao government on maintaining a high economic growth rate of 7.9 percent in 2008 despite the economic downturn.
