Vietnam Airlines angered by false reports
Vietnam Airlines Friday condemned some e-newspapers for fabricating stories about the arrest of one of its pilots in Japan for alleged links with a smuggling ring in the East Asian country.
Some domestic online news sources used incorrect information, cited from unofficial foreign sources, the national flag carrier said in a statement.
The state-run airline said some media outlets had run a photograph of Osaka customs officers confiscating and destroying contraband goods with the caption “goods confiscated after a raid at Vietnam Airlines offices.” The image was attributed to Japan’s Asahi Shimbun newspaper.
The offending stories and images have since been taken off the websites.
Vietnam Airlines admitted that Japanese police on December 17 visited its offices, asking for information, mostly on the flight and the crew.
“However, since then Japanese investigation agencies have not made any more requests to the above-mentioned offices,” the statement said.
