Symbol of coffee reputation in a really big cup
Bien Hoa Vinacafe wheeled out the world’s largest cup of coffee at a ceremony in Buon Me Thuot Town, Dac Lac Province on Dec. 10.
The event is part of the second Buon Ma Thuot Coffee Festival, which runs from December 10-14 at the Biet Dien Museum in the Central Highlands province.
The 100m-tall cup with a capacity of 3,613 litres is a symbol of the global standing of Vietnamese coffee in terms of reputation and quality, says Nguyen Thanh Tung, marketing manager of Vinacafe Bien Hoa, one of 30 domesic brands participating in the National Brand Programme to boost local brands abroad.
The cup, made of more than 6 tonnes of stainless steel and able to serve over 30,000 people at once, was unveiled by Vinacafe Bien Hoa in December last year as part of the Coffee Culture Week in 2007 in HCM City and recorded in the World Guinness Book of Records.
The cup serves visitors to the festival with some light entertainment, says Nguyen Hai Hoang, who came to the event from Hanoi . “We are so impressed, the cup is so big. We drink Vinacafe all the time, it’s good quality.”
Also adding flavour to Dac Lac’s coffee festival are screenings of top flicks with well-known actors and actresses Viet Anh, famous for his role in the film Chay An (Buying Justice) and Thanh Van, star of the TV series Gia Tai Bac Si (Doctor’s Property).
Visitors may find themselves in front of the screen, as a film of the event will also be shot on location during the festival.
The giant coffee cup has traveled to many different cultural festivals in the country since the beginning of the year, including the Da Lat Flower Festival and Hung King Festival.
