Third private airline to take off in Vietnam
The Government on October 22 gave the go-ahead to the operation of the Mekong Aviation Joint Stock Company which has a charter capital of 200 billion VND (12 million USD).
With the approval, Mekong Aviation will become the third private airline in Vietnam , after Vietjet Airlines and Indochina Airlines, raising the total number of the country’s carriers to six. The other three are Vietnam Airlines, Jetstar Pacific and VASCO.
With a fleet of 10 aircraft, mostly Bombadier, Embraer and ATR 72, the airline plans to operate domestic routes from Hanoi to Phu Quoc island in southern Kien Giang province, Nha Trang in central Khanh Hoa province and Can Tho city in the Mekong Delta as of 2010.
Meanwhile, Indochina Airlines will run its first flight on November 25 and Vietjet Airlines’ operation is expected to start in April next year.
