Long An suspends industrial zone investment

The Mekong Delta province of Long An has temporarily suspended new investment in some industrial zones, a provincial official said Thursday.

The province’s Natural Resources and Environment Department Director Nguyen Van Thiep said because of concerns about land use, the province would build only one 300-hectare golf course in Duc Hoa District instead of 13 golf courses as previously planned.

The 7,000 hectares of land earmarked for the golf courses would, instead, be used for houses for industrial zone workers and residents relocated for other projects and urban areas.

A provincial working group has also recommended revoking 19 projects whose investors are suspected of being land speculators.
