O Mon I thermoelectric power plant on trial
The Mekong Delta-based O Mon I thermoelectric power plant had its turbine group No. 1 technically connected to the national grid on Oct. 9.
The plant’s first turbine group, which has a capacity of 330 MW, is expected to officially begin generating electricity in early February 2009. Its second turbine will become operational by 2012.
Construction of the O Mon I power plant kicked off in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho in February 2006. It is estimated to totally cost 6.66 trillion VND (around 404 million USD).
The O Mon I plant is one of the four thermoelectric power projects with a combine capacity of 2,800 MW that will be built in the city from now until 2012.
