Germany wants to boost economic ties with Vietnam

Germany wants to strengthen its economic relations with Vietnam, which is increasingly playing a key role in Asia, said German Economy and Technology Minister Michael Glos ahead of a five-day visit to Hong Kong (China) and Vietnam by a German delegation, starting on October 3.

Vietnam’s economy has developed dynamically over the past few days, Minister Glos said, adding that Vietnam is emerging as one of Germany’s five most important trading partners in ASEAN.

During the visit to Vietnam, German delegation will review preparation work for a Germany-invested project to build a metro line in Ho Chi Minh City, which he said, will help boost German investment into Vietnam as well as reinforce bilateral cooperation.

The trade between Vietnam and Germany reached a record high of 3.39 billion Euro last year, according to German Ministry of Economy and Technology. Germany is Vietnam’s most important trading partner in the European Union.
