Farmers nervous as coffee prices drop

Coffee prices have fallen rapidly in the last few weeks, tracking decreasing global prices, causing concern for coffee growers and traders at the beginning of the harvest season in the central highlands.

In Dak Lak and Lam Dong, the two biggest coffee-growing provinces in Vietnam, raw coffee beans were Friday traded at VND25,000-26,000 per kilogram against VND40,000-42,000 at the beginning of this year.

The price of exports has dropped from over $2,000 per ton in September to less than $1,600 by mid-October.
